#NORWHU

Michail Antonio found the back of the net from close range after meeting Issa Diop's flicked-on header off a corner, following Tim Krul’s fine save (11’). A wonderful volley by Tomáš Souček was brilliantly matched by a superb Krul's stop (43’). Antonio headed home Mark Noble's free-kick to double West Ham's lead just before the break (45+1’). And Antonio completed his hat-trick nodding in the rebound after Krul saved his initial shot (54’). The 30-year-old striker added a fourth to his tally with a cute flick in at the near post (75’), making him the first Hammer to whack in a PL quadruple. Terrible defending once again, Norwich are down and out, relegated after their seventh consecutive defeat.

#WATNEW

Danny Welbeck was a busy man early on for Watford and hit the woodwork, Martin Dúbravka just about keeping it out (18’). Dwight Gayle got the final touch from Matt Ritchie's curling corner to give the Magpies the lead (23’). Steve Bruce’s delighted. Troy Deeney stepped up and smashed in the spot-kick to level the score after Kiko Femenía was fouled in the box (52’). Another penalty went to the Hornets after Javier Manquillo brought down Ismaïla Sarr in the box, Deeney smashed that one in as well to turn the game around (81’), not bad but very crucial penalty brace in their fight for survival, the comeback win moving Nigel Pearson's side six points clear from the drop zone (before the later games, see below).

#LIVBUR

The Reds bossed it, Nick Pope decided it with a MOTM performance, denying Mo Salah, Sadio Mané and co. Andrew Robertson put the champions ahead (36’). But Jürgen Klopp’s men let off a bit after the interval, and after the second drinks break, Jay Rodriguez hit one back to level the score (69’). It ended a goal and point each at Anfield, the hosts keeping their record points and unbeaten home run going, whilst Sean Dyche's sides stay tenth.

#SHUCHE

David McGoldrick opened his Premier League scoring account with a brace (18’, 77’), the Republic of Ireland striker and Oli McBurnie (33’) downed Chelsea 3:0. Frank Lampard’s shaky defence struggled to deal with the duo at Bramall Lane. Chris Wilder can be a very happy man, throwing the European chase wide open, with just one point separating them from Wolves in sixth. 

#BHAMCI

Raheem Sterling’s third hat-trick of the season (21’, 53’, 81’), Gabriel Jesus (44’) and Bernardo Silva (56’) tap ins, th-r-ashed Brighton. Graham Potter's men didn’t manage a single shot on target at home, the result seeing them stay 15th, but West Ham and Watford in 16th and 17th closing the gap to the Seagulls to two points. 

#WOLEVE

Wolves bounced back from two defeats on the trot with a convincing win against Everton. Raúl Jiménez scored the opener from the spot after a clumsy foul by Lucas Digne on Daniel Podence (44+2’). Leander Dendoncker doubled the hosts’ lead with a header shortly after the break (46’). And Diogo Jota sealed the win with a third from just inside the box (74’), keeping the Wanderers in the European race and the Toffees dangling nowhere, Carlo Ancelotti lambasting his side. 

#AVLCRY

The VAR was adding a lot of spice to the already hot encounter at Villa Park, disallowing Mamadou Sakho’s opener for the ball hitting his shoulder which was deemed a handball after a lengthy delay. Trézéguet put the hosts in control either side of the half-time break (45+4’, 59’) and of when his side were given a penalty by referee Martin Atkinson for Patrick Van Aanholt’s challenge on Jack Grealish, but the VAR overturned the call, no pen. Christian Benteke saw red after the final whistle to add drama to defeat. The defeat puts Palace’s run down to five consecutive losses, whilst the Villans keep themselves in the fight for survival, four points away from safety with three games to go..

#TOTARS

Alexandre Lacazette put the Gunners ahead with a splendid finish into the far corner (16’). But the away party didn’t last long, Son Heung-min netted the equaliser seconds later (19’), David Luiz once again failing to cover an attacker. Both sides tried, created chances, pushing for the winner, keepers and woodworks busy. Spurs took over late on, Toby Alderweireld’s header giving José Mourinho’s men a late win in the tightly fought derby (81’). The defeat put Mikel Arterta’s side down to ninth, two points and one place behind their arch rivals. 

#BOULEI

Jamie Vardy scrambled the ball over the line for the opener thanks to some calamitous defending (23’), the Foxes dominating the Cherries early on down South. Junior Stanilas levelled the score from the spot after Kasper Schmeichel and Wilfred Ndidi totally messed up and brought down Callum Wilson in the box (66’). Seconds later, Dominic Solanke beat Schmeichel with a soft shot to give the home side the lead (67’), Çağlar Söyüncü saw red for kicking out at Wilson when the ball was already over the line (67’). Needless. An absolute crazy couple of minutes! Then a Jonny Evans own goal off Stanislas’ attempt (83’) and Solanke again (87’) sealed an inspiring and crucial comeback win for the home side, 4-1. Wow. Bournemouth were seventh at one point this season, but after collecting just two points from their previous nine games, Eddie Howe’s side were falling down hard and fast - will their first win in ten be a grand start to a big bounce back? One place and three points separates them from safety. Brendan Rodgers’ men meanwhile, just totally fell apart and are in danger of dropping out of the top four for the first time since September, Manchester United creeping up behind them in fifth on goal difference. 

#MUNSOU

Paul Pogba lost the ball to Danny Ings, it popped up to Nathan Redmond who picked out Stuart Armstrong, the Scotsman took a touch to give Southampton a deserved lead (13’). Marcus Rashford had the ball in the net after a great pass from Anthony Martial on the left, but he was offside (16’). Pogba crossed in for Martial who managed to hold up the ball, lay it off, Rashford came onto it and levelled things up (21’). Seconds later, Martial from the left, pushed forward, cut inside and lashed it past Alex McCarthy to give the Red Devils the lead (24’). Wow, what a turnaround! But the game's never over until the final whistle! One last corner for Southampton, superb ball from the skipper James Ward-Prowse, Jan Bednarek got a touch, Michael Obafemi just got ahead of Victor Lindelöf and the slightest of touches to grab the equaliser and a point for the Saints (90+8’). A late, late sucker punch for Southampton sat in 12th, denying United the win and halting their move into the top four.

The ninth week of the 2019-2020 Premier League season saw:

#EVEWHU

The Toffees’ much-needed win after four consecutive league defeats lifted some pressure off under-fire manager Marco Silva. And it would have been a much worse thrashing than 2-0 if it weren’t for Spanish stopper Roberto and some top saves and a bit of help from the woodwork. Their third victory of the season lifted the Portuguese’s side out of the relegation zone and up to 15th. The disappointing Hammers suffered their first defeat on the road of the season, seeing them slip down three places to 11th.

#AVLBHA

The Villans ended a run of 50 winless Premier League games after trailing, Matt Targett with the last-minute winner in injury time (90+4’) making it 2:1 against ten-man Seagulls. Aaron Mooy’s sending off after two daft yellow cards in the space of five minutes turned the game around (35’), the visitors were ahead and dominant at that stage. The hosts didn’t have it easy and had a goal harshly disallowed thanks to VAR as well, but never gave up, kept going and got there and punished their opponents for their late lapse. The game saw 44 shots, the most in the PL since Manchester United v Burnley in October 2016!

#BOUNOR

A hard-earned and deserved clean sheet and away point for the hard-working Canaries despite injuries at the back, both a first for them on the road this season, keeping them 19th, one point from safety. A disappointment and two dropped points for the misfiring Cherries, but they stay in the top half despite the lackluster performance. 

#CHENEW

The Magpies frustrated the hell out of the Blues, until former Sunderland loanee Marcos Alonso broke the deadlock (73’) and bagged the three points and fifth successive win in all competitions to Frank Lampard’s relief, taking his side into the top four, whilst Steve Bruce’s men fall back into the relegation zone.

#LEIBUR

Another harsh and controversial VAR moment as the Clarets’ late leveller was disallowed as Chris Wood was deemed to have tripped Jonny Evans beforehand (82’). The Foxes got their comeback win after Jamie Vardy (45’) and Youri Tielemans (74’) had overturned Wood’s opener (26’), the three points taking them up to third and marking the anniversary of former owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha’s death at the King Power Stadium.

#TOTWAT

More VAR farce, as Dele Alli’s late leveller (86’), which came off his shoulder before he took the shot, was awarded, although the big screen showed “no goal”. After all that confusion, the goal stood for Mauricio Pochettino’s men, the game ended a goal and point each. The home side avoided their fifth defeat in six games, whilst the bottom side are harshly left waiting for their first league win of the season. 

#WOLSOU

Raúl Jiménez had the ball in the net THREE TIMES for the dominant visitors, but only the spot kick counted (61’ pen), cancelling out Danny Ings’ opener (53’), after the other two were disallowed for handball and offside before the break. It’s the Saints’ first league point in five weeks, when they drew against the Red Devils (week 4), leaving them hovering above the relegation zone in 17th, level on points with Newcastle in 18th, just two goals better off.  

#CRYMCI

The first half an hour was competitive, and after City’s surprise results of last week (week 8) and last season (week 18), an interesting encounter was expected. But two goals in 93 seconds changed that very quickly. Gabriel Jesus (39’) and David Silva (41’) put the Citizens in control at Selhurst Park. It ended up a comfortable win for Pep Guardiola’s side, taking them back up to second, five points behind league leaders Liverpool before their match against arch rivals Manchester United on Sunday.

#MUNLIV

VAR was in the limelight again after Marcus Rashford’s opener stood (36’) despite replays showing Victor Lindelöf’s foul on Divock Origi in the buildup. But Sadio Mané’s equaliser was disallowed for handball (44’) although not much contact showed on the screen. Sub Adam Lallana saved a point and the unbeaten run for the Reds with his first league goal in over two years (85’). Jürgen Klopp’s men only showed up and really pushed for the last 20 minutes, not enough to bag all points at Old Trafford, giving the Red Devils way too much space. Frustrating, but hey, it could be worse, the Reds are still top, six points clear of the Citizens, whilst Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s men drop down to 14th, only two points away from the relegation zone, 15 points behind their arch rivals. Five of the past seven Premier League meetings between the two have ended level (one win each) - just four of the previous 36 between the sides had been drawn. How times have changed...

#SHUARS

It was a miserable Monday night for the Gunners. The Blades showed what they are made of, taking the lead thanks to Lys Mousset (30’) and closing the game and denying the visitors a way back in, to earn and fully deserve a superb three points. The result takes Chris Wilder’s side up to ninth, whilst Unai Emery’s men drop out of the top four into fifth, two points behind Chelsea.

#ASTEVE

It was a miserable Friday night for Marco Silva and his men. Goals from club record £22m signing Wesley and Anwar El Ghazi lifted Dean Smith's side up to 11th in the table and gave Aston Villa their first win in the top flight since February 2016. Everton have failed to come from behind at the interval to win a Premier League game since September 2015 at West Brom (W0 D5 L33 since), suffering only their third league defeat in their past 14 matches in the competition (W7 D4 L3).

#NORCHE

Frank Lampard’s first win came with Chelsea’s youngest starting line-up in the Premier League since February 1994. But Norwich didn’t make it easy for them at Carrow Road, equalising twice, despite all the visitors’ dominance! Tammy Abraham is the youngest Blues player to score a Premier League brace since Mark Nicholls in January 1998, helping his side to the three points.

#BRISOU

Brighton's sending off came from what looked like a career ending tackle! Florian Andone was shown a straight red card on the half-hour mark following a high, rash challenge on Saints defender Yan Valery. Albion manager Graham Potter said he "can't defend" the Romanian’s challenge. The Seagulls were out of the game after that, unable to form much opposition nor competition. Southampton's opening goal was a stunner! Moussa Djenepo broke the deadlock with a fine strike moments after coming on as a second-half substitute. Another super sub!

#MUNCRY

Man Who? Crystal Palace pounced, making all the home side’s dominance count for zero. Daniel James thought he had rescued a point for the home side in the final minute of normal time. But full-back Patrick van Aanholt netted in the 93rd minute equaliser off Wilfried Zaha's burst forward, becoming only the second player to score a 90th-minute winner against United in the Premier League after Thierry Henry for Arsenal in January 2007, and the first to do so at Old Trafford. Roy Hodgson’s men like to travel, 60% of their points last season came on the road. This was their first victory at the famous Manchester ground since 1989, making Marcus Rashford rue his missed spot kick earlier in the second half - deja vue for the Red Devils after Paul Pogba’s missed penalty last week. Manchester United have won only one of their past nine matches, scoring just eight goals and conceding 16. Ole’s at the wheel...

#SHULEI

Super subs at Sheffield United as well: Harvey Barnes snatched the winner from the edge of the box six minutes after coming on, recording the Foxes’ first league win of the season and Chris Wilder's side only their second defeat in 21 matches. Former Wednesday player and boo man Jamie Vardy had given Leicester the lead at Bramall Lane, before club record signing Oliver McBurnie headed in the equaliser for the home side and the sub's heart-breaker. 

#WATWHU

There was a penalty within the opening couple of minutes at Watford! Like Aston Villa conceded last week, making the mountain too high to climb straight away. West Ham pounced and won comfortable thanks to the spot kick and record signing Sébastian Haller’s brace. Despite all the chances and effort, it’s been a miserable start for the Hornets, three defeats out of three games. Javi Gracia's side, who sit bottom of the table, have now lost seven successive games in all competitions for the first time since 1999.

#LIVARS

Liverpool recorded their 12th consecutive Premier League win, equalling their best sequence in the top flight under Sir Kenny Dalglish between April and October 1990. Mohamed Salah has been involved in 77 goals in 77 games, 57 goals and 20 assists. It was a comfortable home win against Arsenal, Joël Matip with the opening header before the great Egyptian added his brace, helped by David Luiz’s idiotic foul in the box, pulling him down by the shirt and handing the Reds a penalty. And then Mo embarrassed the former blue again out on the touchline at the start of a dazzling run that ended with a low, curling finish into the bottom corner just before the hour. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has faced Arsenal eight times without defeat in the Premier League (W5 D3). Vielen Dank!

#BOUMCI

Manchester City cruised to a win at Bournemouth, no shocks or surprises there. David Silva starred in his 400th appearance for the club, contributing to all three goals = Sergio Agüero’s brace taking him to 400 goals for club and country, 235 of them for City, and Raheem Sterling’s poke in. The Cherries, who drop to 10th place, continued a miserable run against the Citizens, that has seen them concede 28 times in their last nine league meetings. Pep Guardiola's side has won all nine of their top-flight games against Bournemouth - the best 100% win record by a team over an opponent in top-flight history.

#TOTNEW

Club record £40m signing Joelinton with his first Newcastle goal served Steve Bruce his first points as Magpies manager, stunning Tottenham at Wembley. The Brazilian striker took advantage of sleepy defending to control substitute Christian Atsu's pass beautifully before drilling past Hugo Lloris. Spurs lacked the creativity to break down a resolute Newcastle side, whose four-man midfield kept sitting deep in front of a back five. Bruce hopes Newcastle win "will shut a few people up". Tell that the fans who have travelled more than 1,000 miles over the past two weekends. But hey, they definitely weren't complaining on their way back from London this time!

#WOLBUR

Raúl Jiménez's penalty in the 97th minute was the latest ever Premier League goal by Wolves, just their second shot on target in the game, grabbing his side a point against Burnley. Ashley Barnes looked to have won it for the Clarets after pouncing from around 25 yards - his fourth goal in three Premier League games this season - against a disjointed Wolves side playing their third game inside a week. Nuno Espírito Sante's side has drawn their first three games of a league campaign for the first time since 1938-39, when they finished second in the top flight. Good omen? The Wanderers are unbeaten in their last 10 home games in the Premier League (W6 D4); their longest run without defeat in the top flight since April to October 1979 (also 10 games). Brilliant run!

So, Liverpool, Aston Villa and Wolves were the only three home sides not to suffer defeat! #HomeSweetHome
